Hi, my name is Janelle Shetters. I live in Rockport, Texas with my spouse and our three boys, ages 13, 13 and 19. I have loved singing my entire life, but for most of my adulthood, I was a cook in a restaurant. I lost my mother to Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2006, and then I lost my oldest sister to the same disease in 2012. While helping to care for my sister, I listened to her regrets in life, most of which were things that she had NOT done. She encouraged me to do something with my voice.
A few months after her death, I talked the owner of the restaurant where I was working into letting me sing when a band canceled last minute. That started my singing career!! So I started singing professionally in February 2013, in addition to cooking. In early 2015, I was very fortunate to be able to stop cooking and make my living entirely from singing.
How many people can say they adore their job?? It’s really hard to even call it work!! I typically do shows 4-6 nights a week locally. I do bars, restaurants, RV Park’s and private events. I’m currently teaching myself to play the ukelele. But for now, I sing to professional backing tracks. This gives a full band sound and I have access to basically any song!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE requests, even if I have never heard it, I will sing it. My motto is “if I know it, I will sing it gladly, if I don’t know it, I will sing it badly”, but either way it’s getting sung”!!
I am also a songwriter. I come up with the melody and I write the lyrics. You can hear some of my originals by following the link to my Reverbnation page. You can also follow the link to my YouTube page, where I have quite a few cover songs, from many different genres.
I rarely take a break, if I do it’s usually just a quick bathroom break. When the crowd is up and having fun, I don’t want to stop!! I love to draw the crowd in and have them participate in my show. It excites me when I see them involved and singing along and throwing out requests!! I have THE BEST FANS and I love them all!!!
